According to Odaily, Matter Labs, the developer of zkSync, has sparked widespread dissatisfaction in the crypto industry by filing trademark applications for 'ZK' in nine countries. The company claims that the term 'zero knowledge' is its exclusive intellectual property. This move has led to an open letter signed by industry leaders, including Polygon co-founders Sandeep Nailwal and Brendan Farmer, StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson, Polyhedra Network co-founder and zkBridge inventor Tiancheng Xie, and Turing Award winner and ZK-proofs co-inventor Shafi Goldwasser. They are urging Matter Labs to withdraw the trademark application, labeling it as 'oppressive behavior'.

The 'ZK' trademark application by Matter Labs has stirred controversy in the crypto industry, with many viewing it as an attempt to monopolize a common term. The signatories of the open letter have expressed their disapproval of this move and are calling for Matter Labs to reconsider their decision. The outcome of this situation remains to be seen, but it has certainly sparked a debate about intellectual property rights within the crypto industry.
