Elon Musk Plans To Build Supercomputer For xAI Startup

According to U.Today, Elon Musk, the centibillionaire, is planning to construct a supercomputer for the xAI startup. The supercomputer is expected to power the next version of Grok, Musk's controversial competitor to ChatGPT. This development follows the unveiling of Grok-1.5V by xAI, a multimodal AI model of its chatbot capable of functioning in both visual and verbal modes.

The report suggests that the supercomputer might be built in collaboration with technology giant Oracle. Earlier this week, it was reported by the Financial Times that xAI was on the verge of securing a new funding round worth $6 billion. The funding round includes participants such as VC giants Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital. Musk's goal is to secure sufficient funding to compete with OpenAI, currently valued at an impressive $80 billion, and other emerging AI powerhouses like Anthropic.

Musk is promoting his startup as a superior alternative due to its potential to connect with his various enterprises. As reported, xAI is expected to reach a valuation of over $18 billion. As interest in AI continues to grow, billionaires with deep pockets are attempting to attract smaller AI startups. Currently, Musk's xAI and Mark Zuckerberg's Meta are competing to secure a partnership with chatbot-maker Character.ai.
